Summary:
Our client is a
growing floor and roof truss manufacturing company who
provides high quality trusses, lumber, and provides responsive
and exceptional customer service. Skilled and educated, the Truss Design Manager works full-time hours in the office. This position collaborates with
sales, dispatch, estimating and production teams to ensure designs are
successful and properly delivered to customers.
This position
reports to the President/CEO.
Leadership Skills:

- To ensure
accurate and efficient designs with high level of consideration given to
customers.
- Evaluates
individual design deliveries and overall team performance.
- Provide
critical feedback where needed and encourages team members throughout the
duration of projects.
- Collaborates
with other teams to ensure success with customers’ truss design projects.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the
Sales Manager to assure that design and estimating are produced to meet
the sales needs of the company. Field sales and customer calls concerning
the quality and compatibility of trusses in the field. Handle engineering
issues.
- Communicates
with the Truss Production Manager to make sure that designs are production
friendly and produced in a timely manner to allow production to
efficiently manufacture trusses to meet customers schedule.
- Coordinates
with Shipping/Dispatch Dept. to see that trusses are designed to maximize
truck loads and minimize over-wide permits. Maintain excellent quality to
minimize returns and handling damage.
- Collaborate and
communicate with design and production software provider to ensure
efficiency in all departments. Keep software and hardware updated. Work
with company’s IT provider to ensure company efficiency.
- Maintain,
review, and implement procedures to increase the efficiency of the
company.
- Train Designers
to efficiently produce truss designs, optimizing both material and labor
savings. Maintain design production both internal and external to meet
sales and production requirements.
- Oversees and
communicates information to Design Department. Currently manages five (5)
internal Designers and an external design company; Design Quality
Analyst/IT Administrator, and two (2) Administrators to process design to
production.
- Manages
workflow and communication in the Design Department. Monitors performance
oversee daily work commitments and projects and ensure compliance to
standards for quality and quantity of work produced.
- Ensures
department employees perform accurately and professionally.
- Other job
duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time In-Office
Skills and Qualifications:
- At least five
years of truss design experience and two years of design management
experience; or seven years of combined education and experience.
- Experience
managing truss design projects preferred.
- Manage and
provide conflict resolution.
- Work with other
teams to implement changes to a design, influence and lead teams to
understand why certain design aspects matter.
- Great
leadership skills to deliver clear and consistent feedback to their team
members.
- Deadline
management.
- Ability to
articulately write reports and correspondences.
- Mathematical
skills in all units of measurements using whole numbers, common fractions,
percentages and ratios.
- Ability to define
problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Prior
experience using truss planning and designing software.
- MiTek
experience is required.
- Coding and IT
knowledge is a plus.
- Superior
communication skills to deliver messages effectively and efficiently.
Education/Experience:
- High school
diploma or GED
- Four-year
degree at an accredited university preferred.
- At least five
years of truss design experience and two years of design management
experience; or seven years of combined education and experience.
Compensation:
Salary $130-150k
DOE.
Complete benefits schedule is available for review to qualifying
candidates.
Relocation assistance and interim housing expenses are negotiable.
