Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Multifamily Wall Panel Designer with a strong background in structural component design for multifamily construction. This role focuses on the design, layout, optimization, and production documentation of wood wall panels used in apartments, condominiums, and other multifamily structures.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience working with component manufacturing software and understands the coordination required between architects, engineers, production teams, and field installers. This is a senior-level position requiring strong technical ability, production awareness, and customer communication skills.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design wood wall panel systems for multifamily structures including apartments, condominiums, townhouses, and mixed-use residential projects.

• Produce complete panel layouts, elevations, and detailed placement drawings from architectural and structural plans.

• Generate optimized panel designs that balance structural requirements, manufacturing efficiency, and installation practicality.

• Prepare production documentation including panel layouts, cut lists, hardware requirements, and assembly details for manufacturing.

• Review architectural and engineering drawings to identify potential design conflicts, missing information, and constructability concerns.

• Coordinate panel design with floor truss, roof truss, and structural framing systems to ensure full structural integration.

• Apply building codes, engineering requirements, and manufacturer specifications to ensure designs meet all structural standards.

• Communicate with architects, engineers, general contractors, and internal sales teams to resolve design questions and project details.

• Provide technical support during manufacturing and field installation when panel design clarification is required.

• Review and check work produced by other designers when needed to maintain accuracy and consistency.

• Maintain project timelines and respond to customer requests while balancing production schedules.

• Create loading/stacking sequences based on site access, number of floors, and customer's preferred wall setting order.

Required Experience

• Extensive experience designing wood wall panel systems for multifamily construction. Minimum 3 years of experience.

• Strong understanding of structural framing principles, load paths, and component integration.

• Experience working with component design software such as MiTek, Alpine, or equivalent systems.

• Ability to interpret complex architectural and structural drawings.

• Experience preparing manufacturing and placement documents for panel production.

• Strong problem solving skills and ability to identify constructability issues before production.

Preferred Skills

• Experience Alpine software for wall panels.

• Experience coordinating panel systems with truss and floor systems.

• Familiarity with production processes used in component manufacturing facilities.

• Experience supporting field installation teams or troubleshooting installation issues.

• Ability to assist with mentoring junior designers when needed.

Education

High school diploma or GED required. Additional construction, engineering, or drafting education is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: $32-38 hr, average 45 hours a week, additional overtime is usually available. 

Benefits may include medical insurance, retirement programs, paid time off, and other standard employment benefits.  Company benefits schedule is available to screened candidates.

Work Schedule

Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday with occasional extended hours depending on project demands.

Location:  The company has multiple plants in multiple states.  This position would support the Eastern US division. 

Relocation assistance may be considered for qualified candidates depending on experience and location.
