Operations Manager – Mass Timber & Modular (J15423)

Job Type & Schedule: Full-Time, Monday to Friday

Location: Central U.S. area

Salary Range: $95,000 - $115,000+ DOE + Performance-Based Bonuses

Job Summary: Our client is an innovative, well-funded early-stage company in the advanced structural wood and modular building space. Currently operating a pilot program building 3 to 4 relatively affordable, net-zero focused homes per year, they are laying the groundwork to scale substantially by 2030. They are preparing to transition into a new, larger facility this November and are seeking a highly tactical, hands-on Operations Manager to serve as the critical "number two," reporting directly to the Founder/CEO. This is a rare opportunity to build a production floor culture from the ground up, starting with highly detailed manual assembly and evolving into a fully automated, mass-timber CNC manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Phase 1 (Next 12 Months): Take ownership of the pilot floor and oversee operations following the new facility transition this November. Manage the manual assembly, workflow, and quality control of pre-machined mass timber panels sourced from external partners.

  • Establish and formalize the baseline Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the plant floor to prepare for future scaling.

  • Act as a hands-on leader, working directly with a lean shop team currently expanding to 5 members, focusing on continuous improvement and safety.

  • Phase 2 (Year 2+): Spearhead the operational integration, layout mapping, tooling, and programming required for the future installation of a heavy timber CNC machining line.

  • Scale the production team organically to meet aggressive long-term manufacturing targets for net-zero community developments.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional leadership skills with a proven ability to build, motivate, and manage a highly capable production team.

  • Clear understanding that this is a demanding startup environment; the company offers top-tier compensation and expects a rigorous work ethic and high-level execution in return.

  • Proven background in mass timber manufacturing, Engineered Wood Products (EWP), custom CNC cabinet making, or architectural millwork.

  • Strong hands-on experience as a Production Supervisor, Shop Foreman, or Operations Manager who is highly comfortable executing strategy on the floor.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with CAD/CAM software and a deep understanding of advanced wood-machining and tooling.

  • A low-ego, highly driven mentality—someone who thrives in an early-stage environment and is willing to get their hands dirty to build systems from scratch.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and execute complex structural layouts and shop drawings.

Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary.

  • Standard health benefits.

Notes:

  • U.S. based applicants only. Offshore applicants will not be considered.

  • All inquiries are handled with strict confidentiality. Candidate information is never presented to an employer without prior approval.
