Our client is seeking an experienced, self-directed Outside Sales Representative to develop and manage a Mid-Atlantic sales territory covering Delaware, Maryland's Eastern Shore, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Southern New Jersey. The successful candidate should be positioned within the territory to effectively serve customers and develop new business.
This is a field-based sales position serving large multifamily and commercial developments, single-family tract and custom home builders, and agricultural construction projects. The product line includes roof and floor trusses, wall panels, laminated veneer lumber (LVL), I-joists, glulam posts, pre-built stairs, rim board, and connector hardware.
The position combines development of new business with management and growth of existing customer relationships. Customers and prospects include lumber dealers, builders, developers, contractors, architects, engineers, and other construction professionals.
Responsibilities
Develop new business and expand sales throughout the assigned territory.
Manage and grow relationships with existing customers.
Sell roof and floor trusses, wall panels, EWP, and related structural building products.
Develop and execute territory sales plans and identify new market opportunities.
Prospect through direct contact, referrals, networking, industry relationships, and lead follow-up.
Meet with customers at their offices, job sites, and other locations throughout the territory.
Review plans and project requirements with customers and coordinate with design, estimating, technical, and production personnel as needed.
Assist customers with product selection, project planning, and solutions for complex projects.
Conduct product presentations and customer training when appropriate.
Monitor competitive activity, market conditions, and pricing within the territory.
Maintain customer, project, and sales activity information.
Attend company meetings, industry events, trade shows, and training programs as required.
Provide responsive follow-through throughout the sales and project process.
Experience and Qualifications
A minimum of three years of relevant experience with roof trusses, wall panels, EWP, framing systems, building materials, or construction is preferred. Experience may be concurrent across multiple product categories. Direct knowledge of wood trusses is highly preferred.
Previous outside sales experience in structural building components, EWP, lumber, building materials, or a related construction market is preferred.
The employer will also consider an experienced truss or component designer seeking to move into sales if that individual has substantial customer-facing experience and has regularly supported sales activities in the field. This may include customer meetings, jobsites, project consultation, presentations, troubleshooting, or working directly with sales representatives to develop and maintain accounts.
Candidates should also have:
Working knowledge of structural framing systems and construction practices.
Ability to read and understand blueprints and construction plans.
Strong communication, presentation, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
Ability to work independently and manage a large sales territory without continuous supervision.
Strong organizational and follow-through skills.
Ability to recognize opportunities and take initiative without requiring daily direction.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the territory.
Travel and Work Location
This is a field-based position requiring extensive travel throughout the assigned territory. The successful candidate should live in a location that provides effective access to the market. Some work may be performed from a home office when not visiting customers or job sites.
Occasional overnight travel may be required. Periodic travel to the company's office will also be necessary for meetings, training, and review of complex projects.
Compensation and Benefits
Expected total compensation is $100,000-$150,000, or more, consisting of base salary plus performance-based bonus. Actual compensation will depend on experience, industry knowledge, sales background, and performance.
Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid time off and holidays, and ongoing training and professional development.
