Our client is seeking an experienced Truss Design Manager to lead a department of six or more designers. The primary market is custom single-family homes, with multifamily projects also part of the workload. This position reports to the Operations VP.
This opportunity may also be a fit for a manager who has designers interested in making a move together. The employer can consider hiring at least two designers along with the successful management candidate.
Responsibilities
Manage daily design department operations, including scheduling, workload assignments, project priorities, and deadlines.
Hire, train, mentor, and develop designers. Conduct performance reviews and address individual and department performance.
Review layouts, truss designs, and production documents for accuracy, completeness, applicable requirements, and manufacturing efficiency.
Coordinate with sales, estimating, production, and shipping to meet customer commitments and maintain an orderly flow of work.
Resolve design questions, plan discrepancies, revisions, and field issues with customers, builders, engineers, and internal departments.
Establish and maintain design procedures that improve consistency, productivity, material utilization, and quality.
Monitor department capacity and communicate staffing needs, project concerns, and performance to the Operations VP.
Occasionally handle complex custom-home designs and overflow work while maintaining responsibility for the department.
Experience and Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have substantial truss design experience, including custom single-family homes, and demonstrated success leading a design team. Multifamily design experience is also valuable.
Candidates should be proficient with Alpine or equivalent truss design software and able to interpret architectural and structural plans, resolve technical issues, and produce accurate, production-ready work. Strong organization, communication, quality control, and employee development skills are essential.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary is $120,000–$135,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Total annual compensation potential is $120,000–$150,000, including base salary and bonus. Bonus compensation is performance based.
